Savoring Summer one Stitch at a Time

As the long, sun-soaked days of summer stretch on, I’ve found myself slowing down and soaking it all in—one stitch, one row, one skein at a time.

There’s something magical about crafting during this season: the soft hum of a fan in the background, yarn draped across sun-warmed knees, and the way the late evening light makes every color pop just a little brighter.

While some might swap their needles and hooks for swimsuits and sandals, I say why not both? A good cotton yarn, a breezy pattern, and a shady spot under a tree can turn any afternoon into a mini retreat.

Summer is fleeting—but the memories (and projects!) we create during this time are woven into the fabric of our year. Whether it’s crocheting on a road trip, knitting through a backyard BBQ, or finally tackling that fiber project you’ve been dreaming of since January, it’s all part of the rhythm of the season.

Here’s to sunshine, slow moments, and the joy of making. 🌞🧶

Treadmill + Knitting?

Hello again!

I have come to discuss the environment everyone prefers to knit/crochet it! Somewhere cozy perhaps, like a couch with plenty of pillows and blankets? Inside or outside? On a treadmill?

My partner and I will be running a marathon this summer and training for this in the cold winter month is….. uninspiring. BOOM that’s where the treadmill comes into play! It’s the perfect way to avoid the cold snaps and snow storms North Dakota is blessed with Sep-May.

Now… how do you like to spend HOURS on a boring old treadmill with the same boring old scenery?? Pop on a show/movie? Sometimes this will keep you occupied enough. Listen to music? Again the lack of scenery proves to be too much. Post on the website? Maybe 😂 but this doesn’t take up too much time and I’m not always feeling like posting! To combat the boredom of the treadmill I have taken to crocheting and knitting while walking!

Here’s are some of the most recent treadmill creations:

Feel free to comment your thoughts or just read. Hopefully this brought you a chuckle… and yes I did write this post while walking in the treadmill 😘

Hello World!

Consolidating everything from my mom and my Etsy/Tedooo/Instagram has been on the agenda for a while so here is the result! This site will be the centerpiece for all of our crochet and knit creations, excess yarn for sale, and free fiber art tutorials that you may want or need!

This is the first post on the new site! What is a better way to kick everything off by doing a formal introduction! Hi my name is Mel and I have been crocheting for a little over a year, and knitting for about a month. I am still learning every day about working with yarn, but I enjoy every second of the journey. My mom has been crocheting for the majority of her life (ever since I was born) and brings a plethora of knowledge to the table. That being said, both of us still love to try new things and try to learn as much as possible about the wonderful world of fiber arts. The freedom that comes with being able to create with yarn is wonderful, and I want to share this freedom with anyone who wants to learn. We were both born and raised in the Midwestern United States- hence the name! Hopefully that is easy enough to remember!

Both of us have a touch of ADHD (maybe a little more than a touch) and will try to create whatever pattern we fancy. Everything from amiguri, human wear-ables, pet wear-ables, blankets, dishcloths, etc. the list grows every year…. See below for some of the items that I have made in just one year of learning to crochet!

**As a general note: working with yarn is in my blood and I took to it like a fish to water. I also had the most wonderful crochet master to teach me from the beginning. DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED if you need a little more time to build up your skills. Learning to crochet and knit takes time and might look a little different for each person. If it works for you and feels right, go ahead and keep doing it even if it differs from how I do it! This is supposed to be a fun hobby to keep your hands busy 🙂 no need for extra pressure on yourself! The tutorials on this site will be available to all who need it to help build your own skill set! My mom and I will be as available as possible to help answer any questions you may have as well. Do not hesitate to reach out, even if it is to say hello 🙂 We both love meeting new people (especially others interested in fiber arts)!!

Later on we will also start selling the excess yarn that we have in our stash, along with any skeins that have been rescued from other stashes. Keep an eye out! I know that someone will be able to give this yearn a better home than we can <3
